Monday: Well here we are watching the calendar and listening to the tick tock of the clock! Ginger and Paula are due soon and it seems they get bigger by the day. Their whelping boxes are all set and now all we can do is make them comfortable and wait. As you can see comfort is not a big problem - they get first choice on bed space. Once in the bed they settle in and look at me like - what do you mean you don't have room? We left you a full 6 inch strip over there!
Stay tuned and I'll post when the new babies arrive.
Thursday: Oh Lord, yesterday was a long day. I knew Ginger was in very early pre-labor yesterday morning. She paced and hunted for "the spot" all day. Nevermind that her whelping box was all set and ready. The only way she would consent to stay in it is if I sat on the floor next to her. After a final valiant effort at sneaking out the back door so she could do something really smart like get under the deck (15 inch crawlspace that Roxane has had to extract her from once long ago), she gave up on that idea and then pitched a wall-eyed fit to get into Kenzie's playroom. Puppies started coming at mignight with all 6 of them safe and sound by 3:30 am. It was a long night. I am hoping Paula will wait till tomorrow, but it's not looking good for me. She has gone to her whelping box and is quietly nesting so my guess is it may be two looong nights in a row. That story sums up the difference between Diva Ginger and Good Ole Paula. Meanwhile Buttermilk, ever the blonde, is prissing around the house wanting to know, What's going on? What are ya'll doing in there? Can I see?
Friday: Paula has adopted Richard as "her person" in our family and so I was not suprised that she waited in her box for him to come home yesterday evening, came out to visit with him for a while and then went to her box and got along with her task. Thankfully he played the role of labor & delivery nurse for Paula last night. As I suspected she had her babies 1 day after Ginger. Everything is good and she has 7 healthy puppies. We're having snow today so it's cold outside but the puppy room is staying nice and warm.
