People Sometimes Ask Why I Raise Corgis

Photos by Justin Morris
Well of course the first answer that pops to mind is that I raise Corgis because I love the dogs and the breed and ........ I dunno I just do. But you know there's really something more to it than that. In truth, I do love my dogs and the breed, I think they make great pets and although I know there are lots of shelter dogs out there in need of loving homes, I think people can have both. For instance, we have two rescue dogs plus the corgis - we love them all and I'm sure I'll always have at least one rescued dog in my crew. Not to mention the dang rescue cats - oh but the cats (all 7 - yes seven) are a story for another day!
Back to my point - why do I raise corgis? There's not a simple answer - it's all of the above and then there's the fun of sharing pets who have been thoughtfully bred, well loved and raised to be happy healthy companions for folks like Julie in the photos above. Seriously how many times do you have the opportunity to do something that brings happiness and joy to someone else day in and day out for so many years? Look at those photos ! Beautiful corgi and beautiful young lady - both happy as can be. (Note: Julie came back to me for a companion for Lexi in Dec 2010 and now has double the fun with Lexi and Sadie.)
Raising puppies is a lot of work, lots of cleaning, homework, trips to the vet, more newspaper than you can imagine, individualized diets for everyone in the tribe, noisy midnight "fraternity parties" in the playroom, Saturday bath days and taking lots of photos and screening lots of e-mails to find just the right home for each one. In the end, new friends around the country and photos from happy families make it worth the effort. I have other photos from many of you and will be posting more photos in coming weeks. Thanks to everyone who has made room in their home for one of my "campers"!
